About Daniel

I specialize in process automation with a hands-on approach: I come in, do the work directly, map what's happening, identify what can be automated, and build the systems that make it run without constant intervention.

My method is consistent across every engagement — I start from the ground level, execute the tasks myself, document each process as I go, and produce the SOPs, onboarding guides, and training materials that let the workflow scale or transfer cleanly. Once the system is documented and running, I can continue operating it, step into a supervisory role, or hand it off — whatever works best for the client.

On the technical side I work with Python, LLM APIs, Zoho CRM/Flow, n8n, Make, and Zapier. I've also deployed and administered complex infrastructure — Docker clusters, OJS multi-journal systems, CollectiveAccess instances — which means I'm comfortable operating at the system level, not just the workflow level.

I work remotely with founders and operators who need someone that understands the business context behind the tasks, not just someone to execute a checklist.

    Systems Administrator & OJS Specialist
    January 2025 - Today (1 year and 5 months)
    Buenos Aires, Argentina

    Overview

Deployed and administer a multi-journal Open Journal Systems (OJS) 3.4.x Docker cluster serving 15+ academic journals. Responsible for the full operational cycle: initial architecture, containerization, performance tuning, and ongoing maintenance.
Beyond the technical setup, I documented every process — deployment procedures, upgrade paths, backup routines — so the system can be maintained and transferred without depending on me.

    Key Responsibilities

    • System Administration — Docker container management, Linux servers, NGINX/Apache configuration, database optimization
    • Troubleshooting & Bug Resolution — resolved SMTP TLS configuration mismatch (port 25, empty smtp_auth), fixed statistics queue failure (deleted 46,965+ stale jobs, restored UsageStats pipeline), resolved memory issues via docker-compose optimization
    • Performance Tuning — cron job stability (flock prevents concurrent workers), search index optimization, queue management
    • Feature Development — developed fix_ojs_issue.php tool for editors to repair empty TOC bug without database access; custom plugin configuration
    • Post-Launch Support — monitoring, alerting, user support, continuous optimization

    Technical Stack

    OJS 3.4.x · Docker & Docker Compose · MySQL (database tuning & optimization) · PHP 7.4+ · Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) · NGINX · Cron & systemd · Git · Shell scripting

    Issues Resolved

    • SMTP misconfiguration → Fixed TLS mismatch, validated email delivery
    • Statistics queue stuck → Cleaned 46,965+ stale jobs, restored pipeline
    • Memory exhaustion → Optimized docker-compose memory allocation
    • Cron race conditions → Implemented flock to prevent concurrent job workers
    • Publishing bugs → Debugged HTTP 500 errors on article publication, implemented fixes
    • Search index → Strategy for aggressive crawler blocking and index optimization
