About Catarina

Hi! I'm Catarina Timas a Portuguese-cape verdean freelance film and event producer living in Madrid, Spain.

I have executive produced the 1st cinema animation market in Portugal, MAIA - Iberian American Animation Market. The event is now into second year, and it has had an online branch created as well, MAIA LAB - Online Animation Pitching Lab. Both these events have been idealized and organize within APPA - Portuguese Association of Animation Producers, where until recently I had also been working as Board Assistant.

I hold a Bachelors, Post-Graduate course and Masters Degree in Animation Film Production, and have worked on several animated short films not only as a producer but also involved in artistic roles.

I'm comfortable with team management and communication (speak Portuguese, Spanish and English fluently), as I have done so with teams over 30 people.

In my free time, I enjoy playing video games, attending film festivals, networking events, and traveling.

Currently looking for an event production/project management, cultural role, whether remotely or Madrid based. If you're interesting in hiring my services, do reach out. Thank you!

    MAIA - Iberian American Animation Market, is the 1st animation market in Portugal, an initiative of APPA - Portuguese Association of Animation Producers with Catarina Timas. APPA is a professional association founded in 2003 that represents 21 Portuguese cinema animation production companies, dedicated to promoting and internationalizing national animation filmmaking.

    The first edition of MAIA took place in January 2026, in Loulé, as part of Algarve Film Week. The event brought together cinema producers, distributors, financiers, television channels, associations, and artists from the Ibero-American region, structured around two main areas:

    Professionals, as a space for networking and strategic partnerships;
    New Authors, with pitching sessions for short films, series, and feature films evaluated by experts.

    The market took place over two intensive days, spread across different venues in the city. Located in southern Portugal, in the heart of the Algarve, Loulé combines the charm of a small historic town with the proximity of idyllic beaches and a welcoming Mediterranean climate.

    "Carlota" is a 3D animated short film directed by Pedro M de Oliveira. My main responsibilities with "Carlota" were budget planning the entire cost of the film, applying to funding applications, team communications and table (Excel) management.

    The funding application process consisted of preparing and reviewing application documents, as well as filling and submitting the forms provided by the financing entities. Besides applying for funding applications, the project was also applied for film festivals or development programs like CEE Animation.
