Sasan in a few words
I am a researcher and builder with a strong background in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML). My research focuses on using AI to develop innovative methods to address real-world challenges primarily in the transportation and mobility domains.
As a researcher at SnT of University of Luxembourg, I have been investigating applications of large language models (LLMs) to geospatial and transportation tasks. Most recently, I worked on a conversational AI assistant that leverages LLMs to aid drivers by interpreting driving contexts and interacting with external APIs.
Previously, as CTO at Motion-S, I successfully led the engineering team in developing mobility analytics products. I established best practices in data-science and software engineering while managing projects with industrial partners.
My PhD research was centered on machine learning methods for driver identification and behavior assessment using data from CAN-bus and smartphone sensors.
With my track record in AI, both in research and the industry I am well-positioned to drive cutting-edge research in AI and contribute to development of competitive and market-oriented technologies.
Experience
  • UBIX research group SnT/University of Luxembourg
    Postdoctoral Researcher
    June 2023 - Today (1 year and 11 months)
    Luxembourg, Luxembourg
    – My personal focus has been on the applications of LLMs in mobility-related tasks; more specifically, I worked on a conversational
assistant based on an LLM to help drivers interpret driving contexts and interact with external APIs.
    – I have written and contributed to two grant proposals, and one of which that is a Horizon Europe is funded that amounts to over half million Euros.
    – I have collaborated with and advised a PhD student on predictive maintenance research.
    – I worked on project part of NCER FinTech and designed an anti-money laundering compliance method centered on analyzing company ownership networks.
    – I'm working on a project developing ML methods to detect PV panel defects with a leading PV panel cleaning robot manufacturer
(SolarCleano), in this context I also advise the PhD student involved in the project.
  • Motion-S SA
Chief Technology Officer and Product Innovation Manager
    June 2020 - June 2023 (3 years)
    Mondorf-les-Bains, Luxembourg
Motion-S is a mobility analytics startup. I had the opportunity to navigate the engineering team at Motion-S through the pandemic, even though at first I was a newcomer I learned to gain the trust of the team and muster their will to build products that allow our customers to build innovative products. Due to small team size (around 10), I got to wear several hats from system administrator to solution architect and data scientist. Here are some of my main contributions:
    – I lead and contributed to several data-science projects with companies and orgs such as LIST, GoodYear, KTM, and Baloise.
    – I managed and contributed to a predictive maintenance project from inception to delivery for a large Colombian part manufacturer. We built a model that predicts future maintenance events based on vehicle history and data.
    – I established a culture of software engineering best practices, such as code reviews, pre-commit checks, code quality, and security scans in CI pipelines.
    – I initiated the design and development of the Motion-S API platform, navigating incorporation of legacy services, and establishing a deprecation and transition plan to phase out the Grails-based systems and transition to Python.
  • Motion-S SA
    Senior Data Scientist
    March 2020 - May 2020 (2 months)
    Mondorf-les-Bains, Luxembourg
I joined Motion-S to lead the data science team. In my short time in this role, I focused on learning the technology stack and
getting to know my team and colleagues, and their skillsets, which was quite challenging given the lockdowns during the pandemic.
