Piers in a few words
Strategic Visioning & Organisational Growth

My work as an MD, Commercial CTO and consultant for over twenty years means that I am recognised as a global authority in the conceptualisation of solutions that enable decarbonisation, achievement of net zero and energy transformation. These solutions are developed through industrial digitisation and the application of condition-based monitoring, in the context of PPP projects, SPVs and start-ups. A combination of creativity with critical thought and an entrepreneurial mindset underpins my ability to shape strategic direction, accelerate organisational growth, and develop strategic alliances with multi-nationals and supply chain partners. I also bring well-practised expertise in managing commercial and technical due diligence, negotiating multi-million-pound funding, and leading route-to-market and corporate financial activity.

CTO & Thought Leadership

I offer particular expertise in platform architecture, data analysis, electronic security, communications and intuitive human machine interface design, and welcome invitations to provide thought leadership by speaking at national and international conferences on the digitisation of infrastructure. An international perspective, and an innate understanding of others, enables me to engage effectively with stakeholders, build trust-based relationships and articulate complex messages to specialist and non-specialist audiences. I consider myself to be positive and pragmatic, with a leadership and management style that is characterised by promoting a culture of supported autonomy. Above all, I place an ethos of integrity and innovation at the heart of all professional activity.

Experience
  • Ballista
    Senior Consultant
    January 2022 - Today (3 years and 3 months)
My current role with Ballista centres on advising customers seeking to revolutionise management and operation of infrastructure and systems, in both conventional and renewable energy, and utility sectors. Our focus is to meet demands for greater mobility; electronic security; and the provision of intuitive systems, including digital twins. In a similar vein, I provide expertise to support organisations to realise a net zero target and decarbonise. I do so by applying digitisation approaches pioneered within aviation to transform legacy infrastructure, assets and processes, and developing self-sustaining sensing and instrumentation systems. Underpinning this is the optimisation of cost-effective and pragmatic system design to increase operational efficiency.
