I lead on three key technology areas for the business across Digital Development, Data & CRM initiatives and Network Infrastructure Management. I lead and direct the internal Digital Development team to ensure the suite of R&A digital products are at the heart of The R&A's digital transformation. I oversaw the RFP and subsequent development project of The Open which saw a move to deliver against commercial objectives more than previous iterations of the website. The R&A has ambitions to be a digital first organisation which brings with it managing the needs of internal stakeholders and a wide variety of external commercial partners and users all while bringing along the Leadership Team in an organisation founded in 1754. Management of the development of a Data Strategy encompassing such areas as data storage, governance, usage and acquisition across online and offline customer touchpoints. The Data Strategy supports the Commercial Strategy by providing insights on fan behaviours, wants and needs, while offering operational efficiencies and cost reductions. The data strategy focuses on 4 key operational improvements - Customer Relationship and Engagement, Revenue Optimisation, Risk Mitigation and Cost Control. Ensuring that the business viewed data as an asset was also crucial for senior management buy in. Working with clearly defined business requirements is essential. The Open is held at Links courses in, or near, small towns in the UK or Northern Ireland. Clearly, these sorts of locations don't often have good connectivity so The R&A installs a Fibre Network under the golf course to ensure the event can offer the same level of connectivity to fans, broadcasters, staff and suppliers as would be expected in a fixed stadia.
