Following the integration of VNUS into Covidien, direct sales teams were recruited, organised and trained to replace the majority of the previous VNUS distribution network. Development of the emerging markets marketing plans in line with Global strategies and continual analysis of the competitive environment were key functions. Develop and maintain key opinion leader relations whilst working closely with Covidien's business leaders as well as the sales distribution network in the field. Forecasting for a wide range of focus products was also a priority.

European Distributor Manager

Primarily being responsible for the appointment, co-ordination and management of all distributors, their targets and sales and marketing activities within Europe, Middle East and beyond, I managed 24 countries after the initial 'go to market' phase. The organisation and motivation of individual distributor sales efforts to produce the desired company results, within revenues and expense guidelines, was a primary function of the position. Along with distributor contact and 'in country' visits to end use customers, the maintenance of 'key reference centres' and Scientific Advisory Board members was a key feature of this position as well as maintaining a high presence in strategic European Vascular meetings. The position reported directly to the International Director of Sales and Marketing and there was considerable liaison with the VNUS direct sales group in Europe in Germany, France & UK. Annual sales growth was from c.$500k to c. $11 m within the geography.

Main responsibilities included live case support for Endovascular Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms, and carotid artery stenting/embolic protection, travelling extensively throughout Europe and Middle East. Being the most senior member of a small team of European Clinical Specialists I would provide them with ongoing training during regular meetings along with all direct Sales Personnel. Having responsibility for generating and conducting 'live case' and 'flow model' training sessions for European Physicians along with the relevant technical and educational presentations as well as virtual reality training both 'in field' and 'in house'. Where the allowed, I spent time in the marketing department supporting the production of various campaigns for advertising, European meetings, clinical data management, sales targeting and planning.
