Responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the software platform that powers the company's products and services. Working closely with cross functional teams to understand their needs, ensuring the platform meets their requirements and that the platform is scalable, reliable, and secure. Develop and maintain platform documentation, including architecture diagrams and runbooks. Mentor junior engineers, pair program and participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and engineering standards. Keep up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies.

Design, build and operate APIs used internally and by customer-facing apps. Functional programming with Clojure for the core services and serverless tools implemented with Python. Also responsible for managing a large fleet of deployed IoT devices communicating with AWS using MQTT protocol and processing streams of IoT events for use by ML pipelines.

My first role focused on platform engineering; providing the tools and patterns for engineers to replace a long-serving web application with modern front and back end technologies running on cloud-hosted serverless compute. Playing a leading role in rebuilding the entire estate from the ground up. Replacing self-hosted and centrally managed CI/CD tools with self-service GitLab pipelines and trustworthy deployments using Terraform infrastructure as code. Administering a multi-account AWS organisation with least-privilege access IAM roles. Responsible for design and build of cutting edge federated GraphQL tooling for GraphQL microservices.
