I am a freelance technical author & UX writer with 24 years of experience in mostly software documentation. My expertise is on the more technical side of the profession, such as API documentation, complex administration software, SAP, code descriptions, and so on. But I try to intersperse these projects with more user-focused documents, because this requires a different way of thinking. I am also a keen editor of documents and UX text.
I am very experienced with designing and writing user guides, online help, tutorials, training materials, troubleshooting guides. I have also consulted on user interface/experience content for many years. I am highly experienced with both developer-level and user-facing documentation.
Too many recruiters lean on tool knowledge, which is strange, as you wouldn't ask a builder what kinds of hammer he has. I love to learn new tools, but I will allow myself to boast that I am expert in MS Office, DITA, Madcap Flare and FrameMaker (XML and standard). I am also pretty good with Markdown, AsciiDoc, LaTex and Tex.
My command of English is so precise that I have been asked to work on style guides, terminology DBs, and glossaries.
I have over 20 years’ experience working remotely, but I love travelling to visit my clients too, when necessary, and I will even come onsite if the project is interesting enough!
